Payment and Refund Policy
Last updated: 23 September 2026
Scope of This Policy
This Payment and Refund Policy applies to all courses, training programmes and related digital materials offered by breaknowly through its website. The courses focus on specialised skills in live production decks and control rooms, including multi-camera switching, live broadcasting techniques, real-time video operation and professional management of television and streaming productions. It covers purchases made by consumers and businesses located in the United Kingdom and explains how payments are processed, when contracts are formed and the circumstances under which refunds may be granted.
Prices, Currencies, Taxes and Additional Charges
All prices are quoted in British pounds sterling. Course fees include applicable value added tax at the current UK rate unless otherwise stated. Additional charges may apply for optional extras such as printed workbooks, certification examinations or extended access periods. These extras are clearly identified before checkout. breaknowly reserves the right to adjust prices for future enrolments, but the price confirmed at the time of booking remains fixed for that enrolment.
Accepted Payment Methods, Authorisation and Security
Payments are accepted via major credit and debit cards, bank transfer and approved third-party payment platforms. All transactions are processed through secure, PCI-DSS compliant gateways. Card details are never stored on breaknowly servers. Authorisation occurs immediately upon submission; funds are held until the order is confirmed or declined. If a payment is declined, the enrolment is not processed and no charges are applied.
Order Confirmation and Contract Formation
Upon successful payment an automated confirmation email is sent containing course access details and a summary of the purchase. A binding contract is formed when breaknowly issues this confirmation. Until that point either party may cancel without liability. Digital course materials become available once the contract is formed and payment has cleared.
Cancellation Rights and Applicable Periods
Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, UK consumers have a 14-day cooling-off period from the date of the confirmation email. During this period a consumer may cancel for any reason and receive a full refund, provided no course content has been accessed. Access to digital materials constitutes consent to begin the service immediately, which waives the right to cancel once content has been viewed. Business customers purchasing for commercial purposes do not receive the same statutory cooling-off rights.
Refund Eligibility, Exclusions and Non-Refundable Items
Refunds are available during the cooling-off period where no content has been accessed. After this period refunds are granted only in cases of significant service failure, duplicate billing or where required by law. Non-refundable items include partially completed courses, downloaded resources, examination fees once the exam has been scheduled and promotional bundles where the discount was conditional on full completion. No refunds are provided for change of mind after the cooling-off period or failure to meet personal study commitments.
Step-by-Step Procedure to Request a Refund
To request a refund, contact [email protected] or telephone 01494 671234 within the applicable time limit. Provide the order reference number, full name, contact details and a clear statement of the reason for the request. Supporting evidence such as screenshots of technical issues should be included where relevant. Requests submitted through the contact form on the website are also accepted.
Inspection, Approval, Rejection and Notification
Each request is reviewed within ten working days. breaknowly may request additional information or evidence. Approval results in immediate notification by email; rejection includes a written explanation of the decision and information on any appeal process. If a request is rejected the customer may escalate the matter to the relevant UK consumer protection authority.
Refund Method, Processing Time and Receipt of Funds
Approved refunds are issued using the original payment method wherever possible. Credit or debit card refunds typically appear on the customer statement within five to ten working days, although the exact timing depends on the card issuer. Bank transfers are processed within seven working days. breaknowly bears the cost of refund processing; no fees are deducted from the refunded amount.
Special Rules for Digital Content, Subscriptions and Promotional Offers
Digital course content is supplied immediately upon payment. Once streaming or download has commenced the consumer loses the right to cancel under the cooling-off rules. Subscription renewals are notified at least 30 days in advance; cancellation of a subscription stops future billing but does not entitle the subscriber to a pro-rata refund for the current period. Promotional offers are subject to their own terms stated at purchase; refunds for promotional purchases follow the same eligibility rules as standard purchases.
Failed Payments, Duplicate Charges, Chargebacks and Suspected Fraud
Failed payments must be resolved before access is granted. Duplicate charges are investigated and automatically refunded once confirmed. Chargeback requests are treated as refund requests and investigated under the same criteria. Suspected fraudulent activity results in immediate account suspension pending verification; legitimate customers are contacted via [email protected] to resolve the matter.
Mandatory Consumer Rights in the United Kingdom
Nothing in this policy affects statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 or the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018. Where services are not of satisfactory quality or do not match the description provided, consumers retain the right to repair, replacement or refund regardless of the time limits stated above. These rights cannot be excluded by contract.
